El Teatro Campesino announces open auditions for ‘La Pastorela’    

SAN JUAN BAUTISTA— El Teatro Campesino is holding open auditions for its traditional Mexican folk-tale production of ‘La Pastorela’ for ONE WEEKEND ONLY. Auditions will be at the company’s playhouse at 705 Fourth St. in San Juan Bautista

‘La Pastorela’ is performed inside the historic Mission San Juan Bautista. It is the retelling of the shepherd’s trek to Bethlehem to see the baby Jesus on the night he is born after being told of the news by San Miguel and the angels. But now that the messiah has been born, Luzbel’s reign in hell will soon come to an end. Luzbel and the army of devils must try and stop the shepherds from reaching Belen before it is the end for them.

This year’s production will be directed by Adrian Torres. The director is looking for actors and singers to fill the principle roles of Luzbel, El Hermitaño, and Pastores, The role of Luzbel requires a confident singing voice. All roles are Spanish-speaking and not gender specific. There are also plenty of ensemble roles as Devils, Angels, and Pastores.  ALL AGES ARE WELCOME.

Auditions are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 30 from 7pm-10pm. Saturday, Oct. 1 from 11am-3pm. And Sunday, Oct. 2 from 11am-3pm (appointments after 3pm will also be available this day.)
