ETC Interns
Eugene Negrete is soon to enter into his third year at the University of California, Santa Cruz as a double major in Theater Arts and Latin American and Latino Studies, minor in Education. He was exposed to the works and art of El Teatro Campesino in winter of 2009 through a class he had taken with Kinan and it was then where he became more interested in the company and is now grateful to be serving as a current intern. In the past recent years he has been a part of the multicultural theater troupe Rainbow Theater where he has stage managed, acted, and outreached to underrepresented youth. Eugene sees the force of theater as a way to empower and propel youth through the telling of our stories and distinct walks of life, the flourishing act of creativity, and by liberating the mind, body and soul. For the past two years he has also served as a tutor and mentor for migrant students at Costanoa high school in the Santa Cruz area. He is in the process of co- directing a show for the upcoming fall season of Rainbow theater. As part of the summer happenings of El Teatro Campesino he recently was a part of the Mesa Jr. Otters Program working with elementary students and is now a part of the production of Popul Vuh.
Ramon is the son of migrant parents hailing from the North Coast of Davenport. Since elementary Ramon always had a passion for theatre and music performing in such productions as “The Little Engine That Could”, “Peter Rabbit”, “Charlotte’s Web”, “Alice In Wonderland”, and “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory”. Thereafter for quite some time Ramon hung up his hat and in 2010 he came out of retirement performing in Cabrillo’s production of “Streamer’s” written by David Rabe in 1974 based on the Vietnam War. He then jumped head first into El Teatro Campesino performing in “Corridos! Tales of The Mexican Revolution”, “Basta Basura” and currently “Popol Vuh: The Story of Seven Macaw”. Ramon is currently a resident of San Juan Bautista attending Cabrillo College with plans to transfer to Southern California with interests in music, filmmaking, and traveling.
